EPCG (National Electricity company of Montenegro) plans to build a hybrid power plant with a capacity of at least 50 MW near the port city of Bar, a combined gas power plant of a minimum capacity of 150 MW in the KAP (Aluminum Smelter) premises near Podgorica, while the third gas power plant with a capacity up to 200 MW is foreseen to be built near Pljevlja.

Using local resources for at least a 25-year period, in full compliance with EU’s climate rule and regulations, those gas power plants will be integrated with renewable energy sources, and potentially convert them into “net zero CO2 emissions” facilities.

The sourcing of gas would either be local if the exploration of undersea hydrocarbons is positive and cost effective or would be from the “Adriatic-Ionian Gas Pipeline” (connected to the “Trans Adriatic Pipeline” originating in Azerbaijan.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between EPCG and Singapore-based project developer “LNG Alliance” to study in details those projects, who would be centered around a dedicated LNG import terminal in the port of Bar.

EPCG plans also to build the country’s first floating solar power plant near Niksic, on Slano’s reservoir for a 2.2 MW capacity. This 9 km2 reservoir is wholly owned by EPCG and not near any touristic attraction, clearing the way for a fast deployment.
